As we face large scale environmental disturbances, it is vital for human societies to understand their dependence on nature’s contributions. Over the past few decades, ecology has developed concepts to describe the relationships between human activities and natural processes, raising theoretical and practical issues. Two main concepts and their ethical implications will be presented in this session: “ecosystem services” and “nature-based solutions”.
